A SOUP kitchen that feeds people every Sunday from the All Nations Centre on Sparks has received a $1,000 cheque from the Rotary Club of Terrace.

Ron Dame from the Bread of Life soup kitchen was presented with the cheque last week by club president John Heighington and club member Kelly Gingles.

Dame said the money will help buy items such as bowls and spoons.

“We spend nothing for the food,” said Dame. “Safeway gives us everything.”

That's in reference to dated produce and bread picked up by the soup kitchen throughout the week.

The food is then stored in 10 freezers and fridges at the Dame residence until needed.

Dame estimates that about 50 volunteers play a role in collecting and preparing food each week for approximately 100 people.

Heighington said the Rotary Club of Terrace, which is looking for members, is pleased to play a role in assisting a local enterprise.
