The grand opening of the Ed Curell Reading Lounge turned out to be an evening with a big surprise to it too July 4.

At the event, Wendy Berg, widow of Ed Curell, longtime head librarian who died earlier this year, presented the library with $10,000 to be used to preserve local historical materials through digitization.

The preservation will be a new project when the new head librarian is chosen and begins work.

Margo Schiller, head librarian for four years, left to take a job in Kamloops recently.

About 40 people turned out and also enjoyed music, hors d'oeuvres and the artwork hung in the room, selected by Susan Williamson from the Terrace and District Arts Council.
