Meat draws popular at the Royal Canadian Legion in Terrace
By Mary Ann Misfeldt
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 13 held a very productive meeting on March 11
The meeting commenced with Cdes. D. Misfeldt, B. Kirkaldy and M. Misfeldt conducting the initiation of 10 new members.
It was a pleasure to see them inducted into our branch and we warmly welcome them. It was particularly gratifying to have some of them immediately get involved with committees.
Membership Chair M. Reddy informed the meeting that there were still 46 members unpaid for 2017.
If you are one of those you may want to drop into the branch from 3 - 6 p.m. any day except Sunday, pay up your membership and have a visit and a refreshment with your comrades.
Don’t forget that renewing your membership can give you a chance to win a Via Rail trip.
The annual sponsorship of a speech arts trophy from the ladies auxiliary and a trophy for intermediate piano at the Pacific North West Music Festival was passed.
Cde J. Bradley reported that preparations for the River Boat Days Parade are already underway and that entry forms would be available by the end of the month.
With it being Canada’s 150 year birthday they are hoping to make it very special and are presently considering appropriate themes.
If you have ideas on the subject you can leave word at the branch and Joyce will get in touch with you.
It was noted that steak night was a full house. The Legion meat draw is doing very well. It is held every Saturday afternoon in the Legion from 4 - 6 p.m. and continues to be a fun afternoon with a goodly number of people in attendance.
Proceeds from the meat draw are used for community projects and your presence at the draw assists your community.
The past trivia challenge night saw the biggest turn out (despite the local blizzard) since last Riverboat Days. The winning team was Grey Matter Matters. Our Congratulations to them.
These trivia challenges continue to grow and Cdes. Taylor and Kirkaldy, who we appreciate for all the work they have done running them for so long, recognize that more assistance is required in order to keep them running in a timely manner.
The branch will see that they get that needed assistance and if you are interested in helping out leave your number in the branch and Cde. Agnes will get back to you.
Mark your calendars for the following events:
March 24 – stunt magician/comedian
April 1 – tribute artist
April 21/22/23 Branch 13 will be hosting the northwestern zone meeting and all members are welcome for the meeting and for the entertainment that accompanies it.
More information will be available as the date draws nearer.
Jam sessions will be starting up in the branch in the very near future and the equipment will be there.
Dates and times will be made available on social media and from the branch staff or executive as soon as they are confirmed.
Come on all you musicians and wanna be's – let's have some fun.
We Will Remember Them
