The Relay for Life kicked off today with the sun and blue sky peeking out from behind grey clouds over the Skeena Middle School track.

And it started out as nearly a record day as oone of the highest numbers of survivors signed up for the relay: 122.

Led by the Terrace Pipes and Drums, the survivors made their way around the track and were greeted with the Lakelse Dragon Boaters holding up their paddles in tribute as they neared the finish and the women received flowers from the Northcoast Nightmares Roller Derby Team, who took some time later to show off their stuff.

Last year's relay raised more then $147,000 with 40 teams and 369 participants and this year, 411 participants on 46 teams are looking to raise their goal of $170,000.

As of late this afternoon, May 10, the total had surpassed $100,000.
