Ferry Island pumpkin festival continues
THE ANNUAL Ferry Island Jack O'Lantern Festival began last night with a row of carved pumpkins stretching down each side of the main access road at the location.
A brisk wind and the number of pumpkins being dropped off kept Save on Foods assistant manager Rob Nielsen busy.
Armed with a drill to bore a hole for a candle in the base of each pumpkin and a small blow torch to light each candle, Nielsen moved up and down each line.
"Our goal is 600 pumpkins," said Nielsen. "They'll stretch down to the end."
The pumpkins being dropped off reflected traditional as well as modern Hallowe'en artistic delights with everything from lopsided grins to intricate animal faces.
The nightly light up takes place each night at dusk up to and including Nov. 4.
