Stewart graduate earns scholarship
A STEWART graduate has been awarded a scholarship for her apprenticeship while going to school.
Brianna Gallina, a graduate of Bear Valley School, received the $1,000 scholarship from the Ministry of Education for successfully completing the Secondary School Apprenticeship program.
In order to qualify, she maintained a C+ average and completed 1,100 hours towards her certification as a cook.
Secondary School Apprenticeship (SSA) is a career program that provides students with the opportunity to begin an apprenticeship while still in high school, and to earn high school credits for doing so.
SSA students complete up to 480 hours of work experience that counts towards their apprenticeship and course credits.
Youth apprentices must be 19 and under and complete their SSA work-based training by three months after graduation.
Like other apprentices, Secondary School Apprentices are responsible for finding an employer who will hire them and commit to their training as a sponsor.
