Terrace, B.C. forester wins award

Jacques Corstanje recognized by the Association of BC Forest Professionals

A TERRACE forest professional has won a volunteer award.

Jacques Corstanje, RPF, was presented with the award by the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) Feb. 13 in Kelowna.

Corstanje, who recently started a new position with the provincial Oil and Gas Commission, has been a volunteer with the ABCFP since he was elected to its governing council in 2007.

Key to winning this year’s award was his participation on the ABCFP’s Professional Practice Committee.

As the chair of this committee, he helped lead the efforts to build a process that makes it clear when someone is, or is not, practising professional forestry.

Corstanje and the committee then refined the process by conducting hundreds of practice determinations in the first two years of the program, which ensures that only qualified people are taking care of the forests.

Corstanje has also sat on a number of committees, including a committee that worked with the Wildfire Management Branch of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations on describing professional services when it comes to fire and fuels management.
