UPDATE: Hwy113 open again
THE NISGA'A HIGHWAY, Hwy113, is now open again.
The highway had been closed because of a rock slide 20 km south of New Aiyansh near Lava Lake.
The road opened again in the late afternoon.
It turned out that essentially only the northbound lane was blocked and the geotechnical engineer who was out on-site made some recommendations for future repairs, said Randy Penner, acting district manager for the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
Because of the location of the rock slide, there was no detour.
It's been a busy week for road crews in the north as slides and wash outs have affected traffic in several places.
A sink hole near Topley closed Hwy 16. While lighter vehicles could use a detour, it was not suitable for larger trucks and that meant shipping delays in the area.
